CELEBRATING TEN YEARS OF MARRIAGE

Celebrating Ten years of marriage what does it mean?

Marriage is a journey, a long road that we travel on, a journey of two people finding their way through life together, loving each other, sharing things with each other, being there for each other.

The most apparent thing about ten years of marriage is how quickly time passes. I remember our wedding day, not all of it but when I look through our wedding album it all comes back to me. It was a wonderful day and to spend it with three of our children makes me very happy knowing that they were with us, witnessing our wedding and they now have their own memories of that day.

In celebrating ten years of marriage, what has it shown me? Well, it’s not the romance of a rom com flick, not every day is rosey, not every day is joy, life is filled with ups and downs but the one thing I can tell you is everyday I look at Beth and I’m in love.

Love isn’t always songbirds and skipping down the street. Love is being there, working together to raise children, working hard for a quality of life that you are happy with, love is supporting each other, caring for other. Putting the laundry away, loading the dishwasher, cooking dinner, putting the bins out, power washing the garden, all these things that are everyday life are all part of love. We share our lives together, we are one.

We really look forward to the special times we have together, the little night stay in a secret hotel or the luxury of me having a destination wedding and Beth coming along to join me and we end up having a little mini-moon together, these times together are very special times.

So all the normality of life set aside what does ten years marriage mean. I look at Beth every day and still fancy her, l love waking up next her, I love to cuddle her every night in bed and I really miss her whenever I’m away from her with work. We always hold hands when out walking. Beth is an incredible woman who is caring, hard working, loving, thoughtful and kind. We never know what the future holds but I can’t imagine a day without her, for all the time we have, I want to be with her.

We really don’t have many photos of us together and on this little adventure to the Snaefellsnes penninsula Iceland, I made sure to bring my camera and tripod so I could capture some self portraits of the two of us. Iceland is special to us in many ways and it’s the perfect escape. We now have a collection of photos of us together in an epic landscape. We will always remember the beauty of standing in the freezing cold looking up to the northern lights passing over the Snaefellsjokull (see last photo).

“REMEMBER TO LOOK UP AT THE STARS AND NOT DOWN AT YOUR FEET. NEVER GIVE UP WORK. WORK GIVES YOU MEANING AND PURPOSE AND LIFE IS EMPTY WITHOUT IT. IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND LOVE, REMEMBER IT IS THERE AND DON’T THROW IT AWAY.” – STEPHEN HAWKING
